Welcome to Cheltenham & Cotswold Advanced Motorcyclists
IAM RoadSmart Group 1265

Welcome to CCAM
We are a friendly, active community of motorcyclists based in Cheltenham and the Cotswolds. As an official IAM RoadSmart affiliated group, we help riders of all experience levels go further — in skill, in confidence, and on the road.
Whether you want to earn your Advanced Rider qualification or simply enjoy great roads with great people, you have found the right group.
What We Offer
Membership of CCAM opens the door to three core activities. Together, they make you a more capable, more confident rider.
The IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider Course
Our qualified Observers work with you one-to-one on real roads. Through a series of structured observed rides, you develop the skills and awareness that make every journey safer. The course leads to the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider qualification — the UK’s most respected standard in advanced motorcycling.

Social Ride Outs
From relaxed café runs to full-day adventures through the Cotswolds, our ride outs bring members together on some of the finest roads in the region. All members are welcome from day one; no course completion required.
Club Nights & Skills Days
Our monthly club nights are informal, welcoming evenings where members and Observers meet, chat, and plan. Throughout the year, we also run Slow Riding Skills Days and Road Skills Refreshers; open to every member.

How It Works — Four Simple Steps
Step 1 — Enrol with IAM RoadSmart. Visit iamroadsmart.com, sign up for the Advanced Rider Course, and select CCAM as your local group (Group 1265).
Step 2 — Meet your Observer. A qualified CCAM Observer will contact you and arrange your first observed ride at a time that suits you.
Step 3 — Train on real roads. Complete a series of enjoyable observed rides across the Cheltenham and Cotswolds area, with feedback after every session.
Step 4 — Pass and join the community. Take your IAM Advanced Rider Test, earn your qualification, and become a full CCAM member for just £15 per year thereafter.
Please note: our Observers are volunteers and manage their Observer sessions in their time in between work and other commitments. As a result, there may be a wait before you are allocated to one. Don’t worry, we will keep the wait down to a minimum, but while you are waiting, why not come along to our ride-outs and club nights straight away; no waiting required for those.
Why Riders Choose CCAM
- Safer riding. Advanced training measurably reduces your risk on the road.
- Real roads. Every observed ride takes place on the roads you actually ride — not a closed circuit.
- Expert coaching. Our Observers are experienced, qualified, and genuinely passionate about motorcycling.
- Great community. CCAM is a warm, welcoming group of riders who love what they do.
- Exceptional value. Membership from year two costs just £15 per year — less than £1.30 per month.
- IAM RoadSmart recognition. Your qualification is nationally recognised and respected.
What Our Members Say
“It was invaluable to see how to correctly negotiate bends and to highlight the mistakes I’m making. You don’t know what you don’t know! Being able to follow a more experienced rider and then receive feedback on my own skill level is one of the best ways to improve.“
